Lady Chiefs beat SSC, earn share of top spot

Reigning champion Arellano University kept its slate clean and earn a share of the top spot with College of Saint Benilde after beating San Sebastián College (SSC), 25-17, 25-18, 25-27, 25-13, on Saturday in Season 95 National Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

Regine Arocha displayed deadly form by scoring 24 points off 19 kills, four service points and a block while Necole Ebuen tallied 10 points on eight attacks to hand the Lady Chiefs their fourth straight win.

San Sebastián College stayed winless after suffering its fourth consecutive loss despite the gallant stand of Jamille Carreon and Reyann Cañete who posted 13 and 12 points, respectively.

In the other game, Lyceum of the Philippines University finally entered the win column after sinking Jose Rizal University (JRU), 25-23, 25-19, 25-23. It was Lyceum’s first victory after four matches.

JRU’s win-loss record fell to 1-3 .

In the men’s side, Arellano outlasted San Sebastián College, 25-23, 16-25, 25-27, 25-19, 16-14.

JRU and Perpetual are now sharing the top spot with identical 4-0 win-loss records.

Christian Dela Paz finished with 29 points while Jesrael Liberato and Demy Lapuz had 16 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Chiefs.

In juniors competition, Arellano High School bested San Sebastián High, 25-19, 25-13, 25-15.
